The Power of Prompts If AI Needs Them, So Do Children

Why the smartest thing you can do for your child today is stop giving instructions — and start asking better questions.
Every day, millions of people open ChatGPT with a question, an idea, or even a single sentence. And every time, one thing decides how good the answer will be: the prompt.
A vague prompt brings a vague answer. A thoughtful prompt opens the door to creativity, problem-solving, and real conversation.
Now pause for a second.
If artificial intelligence needs the right prompt to think well… don't our children deserve the same?
Children Aren't Born With Answers. They're Born With Questions.
At Amogh Early Learning Centre, we believe every child arrives with curiosity, imagination, and endless possibility already built in. What shapes that possibility isn't only what we teach them — it's how we speak to them.
As parents, we often default to instructions:
“Finish your food.”“Don't make a mess.”“Stop asking so many questions.”
These are commands. Commands close a conversation.
Prompts open one.
From Commands to Conversations
Instead of saying... | Try asking... |
“Draw something.” | “Can you draw what happiness looks like?” |
“Eat your vegetables.” | “Which vegetable gives you superhero energy today?” |
“Why did you do that?” | “Can you tell me what you were thinking when this happened?” |
A small shift in words can transform an entire conversation. Children don't just answer prompts — they think through them. They imagine. They connect ideas. They begin to understand themselves.
The Spilled Water Moment
Picture a child who spills a glass of water.
Response one: “Be careful!”
Response two: “What can we do together to clean it up?”
The first teaches fear. The second teaches responsibility — and trust.

Bedtime, Reimagined
Most nights end with the same question — “How was your day?” — and the same one-word answer: “Fine.”
Try this instead:
• “What made you smile today?”
• “Did someone make you feel proud today?”
• “If today had a colour, what would it be?”
Suddenly, bedtime isn't a routine. It's a moment of real connection.

Even Building Blocks Become a Science Lesson
When a child stacks blocks into a tower, resist the easy “Good job!” Instead, ask:
• “How did you make it stand so tall?”
• “What do you think will happen if we add one more block?”
In that moment, your child stops being a builder and becomes an engineer, a scientist, a problem-solver.

Our Belief at Amogh
We don't think education is about handing children answers. It's about asking questions that lead them to discover the answers themselves.
A prompt is so much more than a question:
It is an invitation to think. An opportunity to imagine.A chance to feel heard.A doorway to confidence.
Children thrive when adults trade judgement for curiosity.
The Next Time They Ask “Why?”
Remember this: just as AI becomes smarter with better prompts, children become wiser, kinder, and more confident through meaningful conversations.
Your words shape how your child sees the world. So —
• Choose prompts that inspire instead of instruct.
• Choose curiosity instead of criticism.
• Choose conversations that build confidence.
Because every great learner begins with one great question.
At Amogh Early Learning Centre, we believe learning doesn't begin with answers — it begins with the right prompts. And sometimes, the smallest question creates the biggest thinker.
